( If you are reading this anywhere but my blog, you can find the original post here. )
First let me just say that I am not a big fan of Yahoo instant messaging, but I have it because several friends and clients use it. I personally use AOL Instant Messenger, but I also use Yahoo and Google Talk because of others as well.
So for the last couple of days I have been getting chat requests from people that are not my “buddies” this usually is not a big deal because it could be a new client or someone that found me from my blog or Facebook.
But these recent chat requests have gone something like this:
(7:17:31 PM) sara.sky10: Hey
(7:17:52 PM) philmcdonnell: who is this?
(7:18:06 PM) sara.sky10: hey there cutie???
(7:18:15 PM) philmcdonnell: Like I said, who is this?
(7:18:28 PM) sara.sky10: who is this again? Sorry I don’t recognize the name lol
(7:18:38 PM) philmcdonnell: What?
(7:18:50 PM) sara.sky10: Oh Ok LOL,Nice!how you doin??
(7:19:04 PM) philmcdonnell: I am fine, but who is this I am typing too?
(7:19:18 PM) sara.sky10: I’m actually working right now what are you doing exactly??
(7:19:44 PM) philmcdonnell: I am blocking you for not telling me who you are and how I know you… Good Bye!
So anyone have any idea why there are people that do this?
Are they just looking to talk to someone?
Have you had this happen to you?
I signed up for yahoo messenger today (first time) and logged in and instantly got the same message.
I googled the name and it took me to your blog! Now following you on Twitter as well.
#yahoofail ?
It is very strange indeed. What is the point?
Ah well, thanks for the follow, I will return the favor when I get on Twitter later.
I got the exact same username and exact same messages as spam. I’ve had my Yahoo chat for many years though. Now every time I log on I get about 1-3 spam messages along the lines of “hey cutie” or buzzes to get my attention. I’ve been trying to find the reason behind these as well, but if I don’t find a way to fix it soon I may sadly delete my Yahoo account.

Luckily I have not had this happen too often. I cannot delete my Yahoo account as some of my clients rely on it to contact me at times. I just block the people and move along, hopefully it will not get worse.
By the way, I love your 101 things to do in 1001 days…
